W. Wayne Lautt is Professor Emeritus of Pharmacology and Therapeutics in the Max Rady Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Manitoba in Canada. He has published over 200 scientific papers, received multiple national and international awards for his research and is recognized for his teaching. His Grimes trilogy shows a different side to his authorship. The stories started out back in 1977 as short bedtime stories for his two children, Kelly and Mick. That summer stories began to evolve as the family travelled by car between Saskatoon where the parents were professors, and Edmonton where the grandparents lived. Many small vignettes began to form a theme. He has found the challenge of writing fiction over the next 48 years a welcome break from science publishing, and the process has led to three fully developed High Fantasy novels, the Grimes Trilogy.

Wayne lives in Vancouver, BC, on the banks of the Fraser river with his high school sweetheart, Melanie. Wayne has worked as a medical researcher and educator as well as founding a biotech company, SciMar (scimar.ca) in 2009 to commercialize his scientific discoveries related to obesity and diabetes. He is still actively publishing in the scientific field.
