When young Grimes loses his mother and four older brothers in a suspicious accident, his eccentric professor father raises him in a secluded mountaintop community of academics called the Retreat. As he comes of age, he learns he is no ordinary boy. He is actually a member of a secret race called the Ancients. Using his enhanced powers of perception, he is trained in combat, science, and wilderness survival. To understand his true identity, he begins a long quest to seek out a reclusive 500-hundred-year-old wise Ancient known as Mentor, who warns him of an evil Sarcigen empire that threatens the enslavement of humans and the very existence of the Ancient race. Grimes meets a fellow Ancient, the enchanting Elsay. They fall in love, but their peace and happiness are short lived. The brutal Sarcigens are on their trail, intent on winning a war that has been brewing for hundreds of years. Joining forces with Willyum the Bushman (a logger with a mysterious past) and his large black bear, they must all fight to escape to the northern Kingdom of the United Princedoms of Koramar.

Koramarian Ways is BOOK II in the Grimes Trilogy

Grimes, Elsay, and Willyum the Bushman, revealed to be Prince Haglund, arrive in Haglund's homeland, the United Princedoms of the Kingdom of Koramar, to discover that Sarcigens have taken over the Koramarian throne. Many battles are fought to re-take Haglund’s throne, revealing Grimes’s and Elsay’s increasingly powerful abilities. Grimes invents the parachute and a wing flyer to attack the unassailable castle that Gorpurth had held secure. The hundred Koramarian warriors that had been held in humiliating and degrading capture, escape and help to destroy the evil forces from within the castle walls. Seventeen years pass peacefully and Raven and Marn are born. Then Gorpurth, an evil king believed to have been killed, is discovered to be not only alive, but a Sarcigen. He seeks to subjugate humans and kill all Ancients. Gorpurth uses the cochina seed to enslave and control his armies and their ravenous canine hunters. The power of the seed also allows Gorpurth to transform himself into an
attacking eagle. The Sorceress, an Ancient from Grimes's distant past, arrives, herself in the form of a raven, and near the end of a bloody and brutal battle, attacks the eagle. Both are badly injured. Elsay ultimately is able to slay the injured Gorpurth. The raven is healed, and returns to her true form. Another period of peace ensues.

Zephri Ways is BOOK III in the Grimes Trilogy

At the young age of 114 years, Grimes sets out on a solo trip, with the goal of gathering writings to add to the Koramarian library, to visit the place where his father was murdered, and to investigate the potential threat of the Sarcigens. After an altercation at a market, he escapes with a young woman, Willow, and heals her injuries. They become lovers, united in their mission to destroy Sarcigens. He joins a group of entertainers to get close to general Celph, a Sarcigen, and poisons him. Willow is then killed by Rimgard, the most powerful of the known Sarcigens, and an injured Grimes is rescued by three bear-like creatures, the Zephri, allies of the Ancients. They help him recover and teach him the art of communication through telepathy. Grimes discovers Rimgard’s evil plans to propagate the Sarcigen race by breeding captive female Ancients with himself. By evil trickery, Grimes’s power and spirit are captured by Rimgard, leaving only a hollow body that would soon die if not maintained. His body is sent to the same cell where Mentor has been held and tortured for decades. As Mentor is dying he is able to transfer his own entity and powers into Grimes’s body. Again, the Zephri rescue Grimes and seek the assistance of Elsay and Marn, who arrive to find her lover, and his father, now struggling with his life as an entity called the Juggler. The land of the Zephri is invaded and the Juggler leads a mission to defeat Rimgard. A Battle of the Eternal Forces between the Juggler and Rimgard, with Elsay's sacrificial intervention, destroys Rimgard, and brings Grimes back his wholeness. Elsay, who is pregnant, is feared dead but, after a powerful healing ceremony involving the entire Zephri community, Elsay is restored, and Grimes and Elsay are fused in powers and spirit, alive and well.
